New York Time (02/07/2012)
|
Hi All,
I am going to be visiting New York for a few days in about 6 weeks. This is more of a visit to say I have been there, and seen that for some of the attractions then anything.
But I am wondering just how much time do you really need in New York. The main things I want to see are the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Times Square and possibly Ground Zero.
My thoughts were that this might be possible in 3 days, although would be happy if I could do it in 2 ...

Whats up! Id really like to build a modular house or container house on this property for my vacation retreat but I might also consider renting something such as a cabin. Ive found Lots of stuff like this but need some advice as far as locating an area such as this. Its kind of rare in ...

Coast to Coast across USA (02/03/2012)

Oh, to travel.
Even a bad trip is better than no trip at all...
**unless that sounds like a drug reference, in which case you should try to get some help (;.

Careful what you tweet... (02/01/2012)
|
This is interesting but not something to concerning to me. I think this is really only something for people who are prone to misuse of words, in the form of slang.
There should be nothing to worry about on this unless you are prone to inappropriatly use words.

Can I enter the USA with My Convictions (02/01/2012)
|
Taking a quick look at the blurb, there's a web site from the US which indicates how long you'll likely have to wait for the US visa interview etc.
Currently it seems around 10 days or so for the interview and then about another week for the decision, so a bit quicker than the 4 - 8 weeks they mention on the original web site.
With regards getting in - as you've got drug offences then those would ...

Studying abroad for a year in USA (01/18/2012)
|
Hope I'm not too late to contribute to this but I have a very big soft spot for schools in the Rocky Mountain Northwest like the University of Utah. There is something about Salt Lake City that just gets me every time, and my education as a Ute was one of the best times of my life. As far as Washington goes, it is pretty rainy but really beautiful concentration. If you want to come visit Salt Lake City let me know and I can recommend some places to go, etc. There are plenty of ...

Would you visit a reproduction Old West town? (01/18/2012)
|
If something like that were in a place I was visiting, I would probably go to it, but I would not use it as a reason to go to a particular area.
In Arizona, there are two that I have been to:
Goldfield near Phoenix which is a reproduction of an old mining town in which most of the buildings were moved to this location from an old town nearby. They had to move because the original mine became flooded, but there is a reproduction of the mine ...

Sleeping in a Minivan??? (01/17/2012)
|
Well thanks! It's our "home away from home"... or something LOL!
Believe it or not, I'm still working on improving that thing. I have the entire lower console and all those parts in the basement while I tweak (break) stuff :-)
Anyway if you have one and are looking for ideas, lemme know. I'll help as best I can!.

Old West Town Recreation (01/17/2012)
|
You have another thread here asking the same question, right? I just posted there, but am glad I found this one also. Are you talking about another "Dodge, Kansas" thing? That's just too phony and plastic for me. Please see my opinion in your other thread..

Seattle to Denver (via Yellowstone) or Chicago thru to LA?? (01/17/2012)
|
That's a tough one for me. I'm a big Route 66 fan, but I also love Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. You could even go a bit out of the way and make a west coast Pacific Coast Highway thing out of that.
I have a couple of links that might help you decide:
A Journey Along Route 66 in Pictures is a great posting of almost all attractions and countryside you'll find along the Mother Road from end to end.
Here's my own ...

Can one find and trust a nanny while Travelling? (01/06/2012)
|
Is your question with specific reference to the US?
There are some basic measures you can take outlined here:
http://www.ehow.com/how_13087_background-check-nanny.html
In a hotel, you could start by asking the concierge for advice. Ask them what agency they use, what checks that agency runs, etc. etc..

Coolest Small towns In The USA (12/15/2011)
|
Agreed! Wife and I travel cross-country as often as possible in a gadget-filled sleeper minivan and wouldn't have it any other way. Once you get off the Interstates and onto State and rural roads, you really get a feel of the community and its history.
Most people who drive follow trucks and watch trees. Not us -- we take the old two lane when possible. Most recently, Utah via US-6/US-50 to US-40 and Indiana. Including some awesome original Portland sections of US-40 and National Road.
If ...

Rolling through Herman Missouri on the wine Trail (12/12/2011)
|
This past weekend my sister and I followed one of the many wine trails in Missouri, this one in and around the picteristic town of Herman.
Herman was established in 1837, as such quite a bit of the small unique shops and wineries in historic locations are not accessible for anyone in a chair. But it is still worth the trip. Here are some of my thoughts and observations on accessibility for the wineries.
Adam Puchta is a newer, more modern setting, their tasting and special events area is ...

Driving from Denver CO to Las Vegas NV. (12/02/2011)
|
[quote:1226020e2a="Party Las Vegas"]Agree with visiting Vegas. lol :-)
In my experience the drive to New Mexico is quite boring. There isn't much exiting stuff to see. :) At least maybe if you went to Utah you could hit Vegas or something.[/quote:1226020e2a]
For me, it would be quite the opposite. I'd much rather spend time in New Mexico, visiting places such as Roswell (the "UFO capitol"), Albuqurque/Santa Fe (a major route lit up in neon of former old US Route 66) and the ...

First Trip To USA (12/02/2011)
|
Are you planning to stay in one location? Or travel the country from place to place?
One favorite of overseas visitors seems to be old US Route 66 which runs from Chicago to Santa Monica Pier in California. You can search around for that or I can give you some links and junk. If you're interested, I'll post more information.
I think the best thing you can do is search around for places that interest you. You're probably going to want to see things that impress you, based on what you usually ...

San Francisco what you like and what you don't (12/02/2011)
|
Most of the great things to do have already been mentioned but doing things like walk up Lombard Street .
My wife and I visited San Francisco very briefly in 2008 during a cross-country road trip between New York and California. We didn't spend very much time there, but we did drive down Lombard Street. She drove it, actually. I figured I'd let her have the fun :-)
We didn't spend much time there because we both were eager to see and explore the Pacific Coast Highway, which ...
