South American countries, like Brazil,
aren't obvious holiday destinations for British travellers.
Expect that to change in the next few years. In the mean time, read on for our South America travel headlines.

Spanish courses (12/01/2011)
|
I don't know if you have any preference to what country but I've just finished studying at a school called Expanish in Buenos Aires and I couldn't recommend it more. I really enjoyed my time there and feel that my Spanish has really improved. The good thing about going to Buenos Aires to study is that there are so many schools to choose from you so you're bound to find one that suits you!.

Margarita Island - Venezuela (10/11/2011)
|
Take it from a local: Go now!
No, seriously, if you have the money and are looking for an awesome Caribbean getaway, go to Margarita. What many people don't seem to know is that two of the smaller islands (Cubagua and Chuao, if memory serves; been living abroad for 5 years now) are almost unspoiled and even less crowded than Margarita. Also, make sure you try the local cuisine :D Empanadas de cazn are the best!.

Rescue operation in Brazil (09/22/2011)
|
This is a travel blog that will be getting more than its fair share of traffic at the moment:
http://www.treadtheworld.com/
Lesley Norris and Bruce Scott have been travelling around South America for the last 4 years, but recently achieved world news headlines when their Unimog vehicle crashed into a ravine when a bridge they were crossing collapsed. Amazingly, they escaped with only minor bruises and managed to initiate a rescue operation by alerting coastguards in Falmouth back in the ...

Most Dangerous Country in South America (09/20/2011)
|
In my opinion, once has to take care always while travelling. However is true that there are places where bad things happen more often than in others. This is the case of Venezuela, especially Caracas area where violence and gang shooting may happen in plain day light, of course not everyday and we do not have to generalize. Brasil is doing well its homework and violence and danger index continues to fall as the country develops. Mexico has some issues in its capital, Mxico DF and one has to be ...

I really want to venture to South America sometime, I'm even considering moving there for some time. I have narrowed it down to 5 countries but don't really know where to go from there. The countries I am now deciding among are Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Ecuador.
Any wise words of advice for any would be great! Pro's or con's are awesome too. Anything from climate, to just overall culture.
~Thanks a bunch~.

Booking tours in Gringolandia (04/08/2011)
|
Hi,
I am planning a trip to Ecuador in June. I am interested in going to the Amazon and the Mindo rainforest. I'm a little wary about booking tours for both places online and I read that I could easily find companies in the Mariscal district of Quito. Is it easy to book tours in Quito when I get there, or should I do it in advance? I am only staying in Ecuador for 3 weeks and will be visiting Cuenca and Quilotoa as well, so the window for the Amazon and Mindo is small.
Any suggestions? ...
