Parts of Central America, including Costa Rica and Mexico, are major travel destinations. Here's the headlines on Central America travel.

|
Have been doing some research on the internet and it looks like to travel by frieghter/cargo ship is very expensive and complicated. But it sounds like fun/a different way to end our travels.
Dont suppose anyone has any tips or suggestions?

Travelling alone in USA (01/10/2012)
|
You'll be fine traveling alone if you are smart about it. People do it all the time. If you are still unsure, try talking a friend into coming with you. When you're there you'll likely see it isn't as bad as you thought.
Thats what I think. I have traveled alone many times..

Guatemala Belize advice (11/25/2011)
|
There are some really good intentional communities in Belize which showcase much of its beauty. Also, Belize is pretty small, I'd spend maybe 5 days there, 3 of which I recommend getting off the mainland and going out to one of the Cayes..

3 months in Mexico and Central America (11/22/2011)
|
I stayed a month in Belize and what I regret is not going to the Cayes before the last week! If you go to Belize, I recommend the first thing you do is have some baked BBQ chicken and a Belikin (their beer) and then take a water taxi out to any one of the Cayes and stay there... truly beautiful crystal clear water (at 30 ft deep you can still see crabs and red starfish walking the ocean floor), and the people speak English and are super laid-back and good..

Guadalajara International Book Fair Nov 26 - Dec 4 (11/18/2011)
|
The Guadalajara International Book Fair is the most important publishing gathering in Ibero-America. It is also an amazing cultural festival. Created 25 years ago by the University of Guadalajara, the Fair is aimed at professionals and the general public alike, a characteristic that sets it apart from other book fairs around the globe. With business as one of its main goals, it is also a cultural festival in which literature plays a major role including a program where authors from all ...

Wanting to go to Cozumel in Mexico (10/10/2011)
|
What's your budget? If you have a little extra cash, the Cozumel Palace is amazing, (we could only afford to stay there one night :)
other than that, there are a lot more budget choices if you expand the radius a little bit further from downtown. The water is gorgeous no matter where you end up, so if you are going for the snorkeling/scuba like we did, the room matters less.
Casa Mexicana Cozumel is in town and absolutely enough hotel for a modest traveler..though it doesn't have it's own beach ...

Cancun , a good place to go? (10/10/2011)
|
Cancun is a hotspot, but it's too crowded for my taste, too commercialized. If you head south on the yucatan towards Playa del Carmen, Costa Maya, you'll get the same scenery and great snorkeling without so much crowding..

Costa Rica tip (10/08/2011)
|
I suggest Santa Teresa, South of Nicoya Peninsula, on the Pacific Coast.
If you like touristic places go in high season (Dic-May), on the contrary if you dont like it very crowded go during the low season (May-Oct).
Santa Teresa is chosen for many honeymooners, weddings, elopements, families and big groups of young people looking for fun.
Everybody has a wide variety of options, in matter of restaurants, outdoor activites (surf, boogie board, fishing, horsebackriding, hiking, atv tours, ...

Which country is cheapest? (10/08/2011)
|
You forgot to mention what you are looking for, besides an economic place to visit, are you looking to surf?, to hike?, to relax? to visit a volcano? that makes the recommendations more vague.
Costa Rica is a beautiful country you have adventure and relax anywhere in the country.
What is cheap and expensive? that is up on your budget and the season you choose to travel.
On the Pacific Coast, one of the most visited beaches, Santa Teresa has hostels for $15 the night in high season...and almost ...

Costa Rica - Tips wanted on nightlife and adventure (10/07/2011)
|
This sounds really fun.
[quote:e458149b5f="Paul79UF"]Another thing to add to your list is doing a jungle canopy zipline tour.
That was a highlight of our trip to the Jaco Beach area of CR.
Have fun! :)[/quote:e458149b5f]
I am also very interested in learning more about the nightlife here. :-).

Tamarindo in Trouble-Las Baulas threatened (09/21/2011)
|
It is a real shame that the Las Baulas reserve has fallen victim to encroachment by unscrupulous developers. This is one of the most threatened protected areas in Costa Rica. It is still a beautiful place, but if you are staying in Tamarindo- take a minute to look into volunteering for beach cleanup activities. Save the ocean and the beaches.
Pura Vida!.

Best beach in Costa Rica? (09/16/2011)
|
The best beach is Santa Teresa, on the south of the Nicoya Peninsula, Pacific Coast.
It's one of the most extended sandy beaches in the area, the waves are awesome all year round, fro Nov-May(dry season) the best time for surf begginers the rest of the year (rainy season) the waves get bigger tough you still can swim and surf.
You have a lot of outdoor activities nearby, zip lining, waterfalls in Montezuma, horsebackriding, sport fishing, snorkelling in Turtle Island, etc
Cheers!.

Favorite Mayan ruins? (09/15/2011)
|
My favourite ones are Tikal in Guatemala. The trip to the ruins is amazing, an unforgettable experience and there isn't so crowdy with tourists. Of course the fact that they are hidden in the forest does raise some barriers, fortunately, to massive crouds of tourists..

MEXICO TRAVEL WARNINGS (09/15/2011)

Good point. Mexico is a wonderful country with many places and things to see and learn and it would be shame to consider an entire country as violent and dangerous just because they have their black sheeps as any other place in this world..

Driving through CA and selling my 4Runner in Panama City... (08/08/2011)
|
We didn't actually make it all the way to Panama. But I will tell you this, it really depends on the vehicle that you're driving and the mileage that it gets. We've driven in a Kia Sedona minivan which cost us about $700 (including oil change) every 3000 miles. We drove in a prius this last month the same 6000 round trip route and it only cost $500. The gas is much more expensive in the US, in fact it is so expensive that if you drive in something like a minivan, it's actually the same cost ...

Selling our 1990 Toyota 4Runner in Panama City (04/24/2011)
|
You should also post on Craigslist, BackPage and eBay classifieds. I know that at least craigslist has a Panama City, Panama section.
Good luck selling it.
We had bought a 1994 Toyota Carina (4 door Celica look a like) in New Zealand for $2,700 NZD and sold it 5 months later for $2,200 NZD. Not a bad rental car price. :).

Guadalajara May Festival (04/20/2011)
|
For all those planning to be in Guadalajara in May there is a festival going on. Unfortunately for Americans the invited country is the US so a lot of events will have to do with the states. There is of course a lot of other stuff to do as well. You can have a look at the website which is http://www.festivaldemayo.org
The website is in Spanish but very easy to navigate.
Wouiter.
